Treating Vision Disorders Through Integrative Eyecare
Eye, Brain, Body Connection
As the eyes are part of the brain, vision is inherently a neurological process.
Due to the body’s intimate connections, neurology and health oftentimes affect visual skills, as shown repeatedly in research. Visual skills, beyond clear eyesight, can only be evaluated properly through a binocular vision exam.
Services include: complete binocular visual evaluations, low vision exams, neuro-optometric rehabilitation and vision therapy. Patients are referred for a complete look at the visual system, oftentimes for the following reasons:
-
Vision improvement and enhancement
-
Traumatic brain injury & Stroke
-
Learning disorders in children
-
Double vision, loss of vision, or visual disturbances
-
Perceptual disorders
-
Amblyopia (lazy eye) & Strabismus (eye turn)
-
Low Vision related to ocular pathology (ie: macular degeneration)
Treatment specifically designed for each patient may include optical correction such as glasses, prism, tints, low vision devices, micro-current, PEMF therapy, phototherapy and/or vision rehabilitation & therapy.
Dr. Wynn Nguyen Tran, OD, FAAO, FCOVD
Dr. Wynn Nguyen Tran is an owner of a referral based private practice providing eye care in two locations, Walnut Creek and Corte Madera. Dr. Tran is caring on the clinics of formerly well-respected practices of Dr. Laurie Chaikin and Dr. Iole Taddei, respectively. Dr. Tran’s fascination with the link between vision and neurology motivated her to complete a postdoctoral residency in neuro-optometric rehabilitation, developmental optometry, and vision therapy. She worked as an assistant clinical professor in the Binocular Vision Clinic at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry and in various private practices. She enjoyed teaching but was drawn to private practice to treat patients directly through her integrative model. As a past yoga instructor, she understands the importance of mind body wellness in a conscious approach to eyecare. A properly functioning visual system and increased vision awareness has powerful effects on learning, behavior, and overall well-being. Dr. Tran offers a holistic, healing, and effective approach to vision therapy and rehabilitation.
Dr. Tran is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), a fellow of the College of Optometrist in Vision Development (COVD), a member of the Alameda Contra Costa County Optometric Society (ACCCOS), a committee member for the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA), and a board member of the Bodhi Charity Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organization.
